Defence Dynamics

Dr Maths
Steve Humble, aka DR Maths, is a member of the IMA's Schools and Further Education committee. His column Dr Maths is published by the Evening Chronicle, http://icnewcastle.icnetwork.co.uk/eveningchronicle, the main local newspaper in the North East, which has a circulation of around 55,000. The idea behind the column is to promote interest in Mathematics to the general public.

Magic Mathworks Travelling Circus
Magic Mathworks is a travelling hands-on maths exhibition for schools, museums and discovery centres. This touring maths lab demonstrates and explores a multisensory approach to the learning of mathematics based on the Multiple Embodiment Principle of Z P Dienes.

Making Better Use of Mathematical Talent - a report of a mathematical Association Working Group which reviews existing provision, develops a proposed "star curriculum" and identifies resources to support the teaching and learning of the mathematically able secondary pupil.

The place for money sharp kids! It is designed to help 11-13 year olds develop their maths and financial planning skills. Also has links for teachers to assist in lesson planning etc.

Motorsport Mathematics
An easy to use website combining key stage maths and sciences with motorsport principles to encourage school children with their studies and show that maths is used in a whole host of exciting ways. 'Motorsport Mathematics' has been designed to not only improve awareness of the fundamental science and engineering which underpins motorsport but also to highlight to school children the relevance and practical use of these skills in industry.

National Association for Numeracy and Mathematics in Colleges
The National Association for Numeracy and Mathematics in Colleges (NANAMIC)  was formed in 1993  as an association of further education, tertiary and sixth form colleges with the aim of assisting colleges nationally to developing quality in all aspects of their work in mathematics and numeracy.

NCETM
The National Centre for Excellence in the Teaching of Mathematics provides effective strategic leadership for mathematics-specific CPD. It aims to raise the professional status of all those engaged in the teaching of mathematics so that the mathematical potential of learners will be fully realised.

Personal Finance Education Group
Pfeg is an education charity whose mission is for all young people to leave school with the confidence, skills and knowledge they need in financial matters so that they can participate fully in society. It receives support from the education, business and government and is working within schools across the UK at a strategic level to promote the development of financial capability.

Pi in the Sky
Is a semi-annual periodical designated for high school students, with the purpose of promoting mathematics, establishing direct contact with teachers and students, increasing the involvement of high school students in mathematical activities, and promoting careers in mathematical sciences.

The ifs Student Investor Challenge
The ifs Student Investor Challenge is a set of business competitions for UK students aged 14-19 that could win you a whole host of prizes, including a trip to New York.

The Mathematics Millennium Project
The project's broad goal is to help people of all ages and abilities share in the excitement of mathematics
and understand the enormous range and importance of its applications to science and commerce. UK Mathematics Trust
UKM Torganises the UK's biggest national maths competitions and prepares the UK's International Mathematical Olympiad Team. The UKMT Challenges are designed to stimulate interest in maths in large numbers of pupils in the form of multiple choice papers with lively and intriguing questions. There are three levels covering the age range 11-18 and together they attract almost half a million entries each year from over 4,000 schools.
