Employer Representative Wanted for HEdSA

The Institute's education activities are co-ordinated by two education committees - the Schools and Further Education Group, and the Higher Education Service Area (HEdSA) - under the direction of the Honorary Secretary with responsibility for education and with the support of the Education Officer.

The Institute’s HEdSA Committee is currently looking for an employer representative to serve on the committee.  Such representation will provide HEdSA with an employer’s perspective of what is required from a mathematics graduate.

The HEdSA Committee supports members working in Higher Education; works with other bodies involved with mathematics in Higher Education, monitors developments in mathematics education in schools and Further Education, and takes a pro-active approach to relevant policy discussion in government and other national bodies.

Outline Operational Framework of the HEdSA Committee;

  • The committee meets 3 times a year in London and members are required to attend on a regular basis.
  • All reasonable travel expenses will be met.
  • Membership is for a 3-year term, renewable on an ongoing basis.
  • Engagement in e-discussion and e-consultation between meetings, along with the drafting of consultation responses is an important aspect of the commitment.

If you would like to serve as the employer representative on HEdSA, please submit your CV and a short statement outlining what experience you have to fulfil this role to Vanessa Thorogood, Education Officer ( vanessa.thorogood@ima.org.uk ), by 9am on Tuesday 26 August 2008.

Applications will be discussed by HEdSA at the committee meeting on Tuesday 16 September 2008 and it is intended that the successful applicant will attend their first HEdSA committee meeting in January 2009 (date to be arranged).

Dr Neil Challis
Chair, HEdSA
