Member Please read information below for details on the requirements, how to apply, designatory letters and further information for the Member grade Requirements
How to Apply The application must include a detailed statement outlining current and previous professional activities. The statement is an important part of the application and should make the case for acceptance by the Membership Committee. Additional information may be enclosed. Applicants for Member should show their application form to two referees who must read and sign it. A signature is taken to mean that in that referee’s opinion the applicant meets the requirements for the grade sought. The ideal arrangement is for one referee to be a corporate member of the Institute or another person who can provide authoritative comment on the applicant’s mathematical background and current work. The second referee should be the applicant’s manager or employer. Where an applicant’s manager or employer is a member of the Institute, only one referee is required. Referees will later be invited to submit comprehensive. These references are crucial in the consideration of the application, so applicants should ensure that referees have a detailed knowledge of the applicant’s work and be more senior than the applicant, or of equal seniority but working for a different organisation. Applications for Member are considered by the Membership Committee. Applications usually take two to three months to process from receipt at Catherine Richards House. Designatory Letters Further Information If applicants take a career break for any reason (for example health, family, redundancy) this does not prevent progression to Member, provided they have at some stage gained the qualifications, training and professional experience required. |
