Subscriptions

Different fees are required depending on whether you wish to join, rejoin or
transfer to another grade of membership
. Please see the appropriate paragraphs.

To join
An annual membership subscription fee is required in order to maintain your membership of the Institute. When sending a completed membership application form the first year's Annual Subscription and the Entrance Fee (where applicable) MUST accompany your application.

The Annual Subscription is refundable should your application to join be unsuccessful.

Applying for Chartered Mathematician
All applicants should pay an Entrance fee of £27.00 the Chartered Mathematician designation annual subscription fee of £12.00 will not become due, providing the application is successful, until your membership annual subscription fee is requested.

Applying for Chartered Scientist
An application must be submitted with the appropriate annual subscription fee of £23.00. This is a separate annual fee and is not covered by the Institute's current annual subscriptions.

Please note if an applicant is registered as a Chartered Scientist between January and September the annual subscription is valid only until the end of the year, if they are registered between October and December the annual subscription will be valid until the end of the following year.

The Institute regrets that applications cannot be processed until the correct fees are received.

Please note that Entrance Fees, Rejoin Fees and Transfer Fees are non-refundable.

Annual Subscriptions and Entrance Fees should be paid in pounds sterling using either:

  • a cheque drawn on a UK bank
  • your credit card or
  • a sterling banker's draft.

When sending credit card details with your application, please remember to include both the card number and current expiry date.

To Transfer
A Transfer Fee of £15.00 must accompany an application to transfer to Fellow grade and a Transfer Fee of £12.00 must accompany an application to transfer to Member grade. For a transfer to any other grade, there is no Transfer Fee.

To Rejoin
If you were previously a member of the Institute but have let your membership lapse you may apply for reinstatement.

To rejoin as your previous membership grade your application must include the current Annual Subscription PLUS £10.00 Rejoin Fee (where applicable).

To rejoin as Chartered Mathematician a separate application is required and must also include the current CMath Annual Subscription PLUS £10.00 Rejoin Fee.

There is also a grade of membership called Associate Fellow but this is closed to further admissions. The Annual Subscription for Associate Fellows is £72.00. The Institute offers a reduced rate of annual subscription to retired members who have reached the age of 60, have been members for at least 10 years and are fully retired. The reduced rates for the Associate Fellow, Member and Fellow grades are £30.00 for Associate Member and Affiliate £24.00. There are no reduced rates of annual subscription for the Chartered Mathematician rate however following the new grade structure, implemented in Jan 2003, the Chartered Mathematician designation is now optional and you may opt to resign from Chartered Mathematician, and therefore not pay the addition £12.00, but remain as a Member or Fellow of the Institute.
