CPD for the Revalidation of Chartered Scientist
The Science Council’s revalidation guidance requires registrants’ CPD to demonstrate clearly that their professional development activities have enabled them to maintain or improve the professional competences relevant to their employment sector. This requirement applies even if you are retired. We have adapted the existing CPD scheme to link activities directly to the competences required to qualify for the Chartered Mathematician and Chartered Scientist designations. We are also providing an optional revalidation form to assist you.

We will accept a professional development return for the final two years before revalidation, i.e. for years four and five. Most CSci registrants were awarded the designation in 2005 (Year 1) and will reach the end of their initial five-year period in December 2009 (end of Year 5). If you received your CSci registration later than 2005, then your ‘year counter’ will be later accordingly.

CPD Revalidation
The onus is on you as Chartered Scientist registrant to show that you have been maintaining the professional development of the competences appropriate to your role as a mathematician/scientist.

There are two document formats.

Use the Word versions to enter your information electronically. The grey boxes expand when you type or paste text in them. Save the files and send them by email to cpd@ima.org.uk.

If you wish to send your entry in handwritten form, please print the PDF format. These have larger boxes to write in. Add additional information on extra sheets if necessary. See postal address below.

Describes the competences and the codes you will require for the forms in 1 and 2 above.

Option 1 – Revalidation form only
We are able to accept the revalidation form, covering years 4 & 5, as a single item of evidence if you feel that it is sufficient to support your Chartered Scientist renewal.

Option 2 – CPD Modified for CSci
You must complete either the time-based or the assessment-based forms for years 4 and 5. This will allow you to state your professional development activities and link them directly to the competences appropriate to your career.

Option 3 – A combination of Options 1 and 2
If you feel that your CPD records for the final two years do not present a clear account of how your activities relate to the competences, we have provided a revalidation form to enable you to supplement your record with additional evidence.

CPD for years 1 to 3
If you have already submitted CPD forms for years 1 to 3, we will not require you to re-submit them in the modified format. However, they will provide assessors with useful supporting evidence.
