The Time-based SchemeThis is essentially a variation on the original IMA CPD scheme. However, the distinction between mathematical and non-mathematical has replaced the original emphasis on formal and informal learning. How
much CPD should I do?
The mathematically-based CPD should consist of at least three different activities or themes to ensure a broad perspective rather than an in-depth appreciation of a limited topic. Actual professional development may well exceed the 50 hours: for example to gain competence in a foreign language or a complex mathematical software package may well require more than 50 hours in a year, but one activity cannot meet the year's full CPD requirement. We advise you to maintain a career logbook in parallel with the CPD record. This should contain details of work completed including papers and technical reports, project and contract involvement, achievements, personal contribution to successful outcomes, responsibility for technical, budgetary and staff management. The
Scheme
Members may exceed the total time allocation of 50 hours. Record the total time spent in an activity, as well as the actual time devoted to CPD. If these guidelines are not clear, remember that the objective is to have a balanced mix of activities. The
Forms
If you are a Chartered Scientist and working towards eventual revalidation, you should use a modified version MEMBER RECORD CPD3 in Word or PDF You will also need to refer to the Chartered Mathematician competence codes listed in document CPD5 in Word and PDF Questions
