The New Corporate Affiliate Scheme
The IMA promotes and supports understanding, teaching, research and applications of Mathematics. The Institute invites organisations that also support Mathematics to become Mathematics Corporate Affiliates and has revised its scheme to make this simpler and more rewarding. In particular, there is now no cost involved.
The IMA provides a broad range of services in support of maths including careers fairs, careers materials, and networks through schools, universities, industry and regional branches. We also promote mathematics through conferences and journals.
Corporate Affiliates can help Mathematics by engaging with the Institute's activities. Each company will be asked to nominate a point of contact/head of profession with whom the IMA will consult for the various educational issues where industry's views are sought and to seek views on relevant aspects of the Institute's policy. The nominated person will receive their own copy of Mathematics Today.
The Institute recognises that the large majority of practicing mathematicians work in industry and commerce and is keen to further improve its links with both individuals and organisations. This topic was a focus of the recent Strategy Review, the conclusions of which can be downloaded here. The main aim, however, is to forge closer links with senior industrialists to mutual benefit. A better informed Institute will be able to represent industrial mathematics at the highest levels of both Government and Education. The IMA will promote the value of the CMath designation to both individuals and their employers; the IMA believes that there is a strong correlation between registration and professional development and that the professional competence of an organisation can be inferred from the employment of registered staff.
A further initiative will be the development of Employers’ Forums at which the particular concerns of Corporate Affiliates employing mathematicians can be openly discussed to mutual benefit. These could include recruitment, training and retention of scarce and skilled individuals. In addition, the newly launched e-Student initiative could put Corporate Affiliates and students of mathematics in contact with each other at an early stage to promote career development.
Sponsorship Opportunities
The IMA offers a number of opportunities to organisations wishing to support our activities via sponsorship. These include:
- The mathscareers website
- Sponsorship of conferences
- Student prizes
- Science fairs
These exciting ideas are still in formation but the IMA invites interested organisations to become Corporate Affiliates to help us to develop them to mutual benefit.
