IMA Lighthill Lectures

The Institute is proud to announce the launch of the IMA Lighthill Lecture, in memory of Sir James Lighthill, founder President of the Institute. The IMA Lighthill Lecture will be given each year at the British Applied Mathematics Colloquium (BAMC). Sir James Lighthill was also the founder of the British Theoretical Mechanics Colloquium, the predecessor of the BAMC. He participated in the annual meetings on a regular basis right up until his death.

The terms of the lecture are:

  • the selection of the lecturer is the responsibility of the local BAMC committee;

  • Institute members may attend the lecture without registering for BAMC;

  • the Institute will make a financial contribution to the local BAMC committee to cover the expenses of the lecturer and some contribution to the general BAMC expenditure.
