"MATHS IS ESSENTIAL THROUGHOUT THE CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY, NOT ONLY FOR DESIGN, BUT ALSO TO ENABLE SCHEMES TO BE BUILT AND PAID FOR."

As a landscape architect I use Maths regularly to design, cost and build landscape schemes that range from simple gardens to Euro Disney.

One of the latest proposals is for the Croydon Urban Regeneration, this includes glass lighting strips in the pavement, metal tree sculptures, new cafes and seating areas, a projected light clock and a sculptural spiral announcement board/video screen.

Another project was an events arena on Rhyl promenade, used for a variety of events including the Radio 1 Roadshow.

We use basic math and trigonometry to calculate the slope of embankments and paths to ensure that they are not too steep to use or maintain. We calculate areas and volumes of material for complicated earth moving exercises, and prepare estimates of charges to accurately cost and build landscape schemes.
