Just over half of students are undergraduates, while the rest are studying for a research or masters degree. "USE OF MATHS, MEANS THAT I CAN PRESENT MATERIALS IN A VARIETY OF WAYS."

I lecture to students about communication disorders in children and adults. To make lectures more interesting, I try to present materials in a variety of ways for example, graphically in the form of pie charts, this clearly illustrates the incidence of communication disorders.

When awarding student degrees, maths is needed to calculate student performance across the years of the course and in different subject areas. For example, we need to average their examination and coursework marks and apply a weighting ration to reach a final decision about what degree (first class, second class etc) they should get.

Finally, in my own research, I use maths when analysing data I have collected. For example, I am comparing sign language development in deaf children with deaf parents and deaf children with hearing parents. I use statistics to analyse differences in language test scores to see how these groups compare.
